Which plums are best for the cake?

The choice of plums for a cake is not at all a trivial matter. The final effect of the resulting baked product depends on which plums you use. Although there are many different varieties of plums available on the market, varying in color and size, one of them is actually best suited for cakes. These are rather inconspicuous, not very large, Hungarian plums that grow in Poland. You can recognize the real ones by their deep purple color, slightly pointed shape and easy detachment of the stone. This is as important as the taste and aroma of the fruit. Thanks to the easy separation of the seeds from the flesh, baking a cake with plums becomes much easier.

Ripe fruits are suitable for pies, but not too overripe. Choose those with a smooth skin, without any damage. Wrinkled plum skin may indicate that the fruit was picked some time ago and has begun to dry out.

Is plum cake difficult to bake?

Prune cake has a great many supporters. However, it is often feared that its baking will prove too difficult and will exceed the capabilities of beginners. In fact, the classic yeast cake with plums and crumble is rather labor-intensive, requiring the right temperature of ingredients and prolonged kneading. Later, rising the dough, when drafts are inadvisable, baking and keeping one's fingers crossed that it does not come out a sourdough. Such a dough is delicious, but in fact, for some, preparing it themselves may be a bit too much trouble.

So for your first plum cake, you should go for equally delicious versions of the cake on a half-crusted bottom, or a runny one. Our recipes are simple, do not require fancy ingredients and are successful for everyone. All you need to do is buy ripe eels, stone them and you can get down to baking.

Semi-crusted cake with plums - delicious and quick to prepare

The preparation of semi-crispy dough with plums is not difficult at all. The dough is delicate and flavorful, and it succeeds every time, without prolonged kneading. You will need:

  • 3 cups of flour;
  • ¾ of a cube of frozen butter;
  • 3 egg yolks;
  • 3 tablespoons of sour cream;
  • 6 tablespoons of fine baking sugar;
  • ½ kg of seedless plums;
  • A teaspoon of baking powder, a pinch of salt.

After removing the seeds from the plums, cut the fruit in half and rinse. When washed, leave them in a strainer to drain completely. After preparing the plums, you can start making the dough:

  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a fairly large bowl or on a pastry board.
  2. To the dry ingredients grind butter on a large-mesh grater, add egg yolks and cream.
  3. Quickly knead a semi-crumbly dough.
  4. Divide the dough into four parts. Two of them line the bottom of a large cake pan (previously lined with baking paper), one part is used for the edges of the cake pan.
  5. Arrange plums on the dough, cover with rolls of the remaining dough.
  6. Bake at 180 degrees, for about 50 minutes.

The finished cake is best cooled on a griddle. Before serving, you can additionally lightly dust them with powdered sugar with cinnamon.

Childishly simple runaway plum cake

A prune cake so simple that it can be made in minutes, bakes quickly, always succeeds and tastes good to everyone? It has to be a runny cake. It also has the added advantage of low cost and no fancy ingredients.

You will need:

  • Seedless plums, about ½ kg;
  • 2 cups of flour;
  • 1 cup of sugar;
  • 4 eggs;
  • ¾ cup of canola oil;
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder.

Method of preparation:

Beat the eggs with the sugar with a mixer on the highest speed for about 3 minutes. Then alternately add flour with baking powder and oil a little at a time, mixing on lower speed until all ingredients are used up.

Line a baking tray of about 30 x 20 cm with baking paper. Pour the batter, and arrange the fruit on top. Place in an oven preheated to 180 degrees and bake until a dry stick, about 40 minutes.

What to serve plum cake with?

Cake with plums does not actually require any additives. It is delicious on its own and makes an almost perfect dessert. It will go great with afternoon coffee or tea. Desiring variety, you can also serve it with a ball of your favorite ice cream. Those flavored with cream, vanilla or cinnamon will go well with the flavor of caramels. Half-crust pastry can also be served warm - then ice cream is most welcome. Thus served, the cake can be an alternative to the classic apple pie.

Regardless of tergo, which version of plum cake we choose - such self-baked always tastes better. Especially, because in the whole house already during baking there is an amazing smell. Such a dessert is really hard to resist!
